Regarding the ParCS project, I have bought a new notebook computer. It is dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. More to the point, it has an Intel Core i7 processor with 4 cores and 8 logical threads. Hope I will be able to test ParCS soon! I have been testing ParCS on two computers, and AMD Penon x4 and an Intel Core i7 (8 thread). We still need more work o the parser and i am suspicious that the handling of the DAG is not as efficient as I want. Any testing most welcome ==John ffitch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Palm PDK Hot Apps Program offers developers who use the Plug-In Development Kit to bring their C/C++ apps to Palm for a share of $1 Million in cash or HP Products. I can test it next week on OSX. What's the CVS command to checkout this branch again? After I finish building the Csound installers for Windows - which is tedious because I have to install (and usually build) so many third party libraries on my new machine - I will get involved with concurrent Csound also. Regards, Mike On Sun, Aug 1, 2010 at 6:02 AM, john ffitch |

Do you mean cvs co -r ParCS csound5 ? Did this, built, tested trapped.csd, rendered with more or less the same timing as the normal version. How do I know I checked out the correct code? Is there any file I can check to see if is there? Victor On 1 Aug 2010, at 21:12, jpff@cs.bath.ac.uk wrote: >> I can test it next week on OSX. With the 1st section of the score, which is rendering OK, I get a consistent 26.9 (normal) and 25.4 (ParCS). So there is definitely a gain there, even if small. This can't be right: OSX tools show csound (supposedly ParCS) running just one thread. Maybe I have not built the right code? How can I check? Do yopu still get this? I have tried here and all I get is PERF ERROR in instr 4: NaN in pow kpow pow.k #k6 #k7 1 note aborted I did some routine tidying up of the ParCS tree this morning so it could be fixed.... Themessage about dubious code is definitely the strings in score, and at one time the reset of count was missing > Testing my latest piece I get this error: > > SECTION 2: > ***Entering dubious code; n=1 > diskinfo cannot open soundin.3945466 > inactive allocs returned to freespace > end of score. overall amps: 29316.8 28880.5 > overall samples out of range: 0 0 > 1 errors in performance > > CSD attached. I am getting also some other errors to do with channel numbers in diskin2, I think Csound is ignoring the if-then conditionals. If I remove them and hardwire it to two channels, using a stereo file as input, that error goes away. Why is pow complaining of NaN, when it doesn't in the ordinary csound version? Just a sidenote, I know when I was working on the new parser originally I added some utility methods to print out the parsed tree as XML during the steps. I found it useful to help diagnose when parsing went off as you'd normally be able to see that the tree got rewritten incorrectly. Is that option still available? This is why: printk 1, kst =====> 50 printk 1, sr =====> 44100 printk 1, sr/(2*kst) =====> 0 It's the new parser having trouble with arithmetic.
