i get a message about not being able to open the output file when using 
srconv (both on linux and osx), for instance:

srconv -Q1 -r96000 /home/jh/Desktop/test.wav -o bla.wav
time resolution is 1000.000 ns
util srconv:
Infile set to /home/jh/Desktop/test.wav
audio sr = 44100, monaural
opening WAV infile /home/jh/Desktop/test.wav
analysing 88192 sample frames (2.0 secs)
cannot open bla.wav.

shall i file a bug, or am i doing something wrong?

For reasons I cannot work out at present it is trying to writea signe 8bit 
wav file, which is wrong.  I think it should default to 16bit.

Work-around is to set -s option.
