I note for the record that the (very minor) changes I introduced did not remove or affect any of the good work done by Istvan or any other Csound developer. They were simply additions that Istvan felt were not needed. I had reasons for them that he did not approve.

The Csound 5 developer community does not have a boss, and in my opinion that is as it should be. John ffitch is the administrator of the CVS site, but he has not dictated the direction of development, though he has not hesitated to express his opinions.

Csound 5 has thus been a cooperative community, and recent progress has been spectacular, not only because of Istvan's great contributions, but also because of the work of others whom I will not list, who can be found by perusing the CVS history.

The implication of these events is that Istvan does not wish to remain in a project where he does not have authority to decide what should or should not be included in the code.

I repeat, I would infinitely prefer Istvan to remain in the project because he has benefited it enormously. In addition to doing very good work on the code, he has provided courteous, accurate, and helpful responses to many questions on the mailing lists.

But he cannot unilaterally decide that other people's code should be removed or radically changed.

Regards,
Mike

I may continue working on Csound 5, just not the canonical CVS sources,
but rather by creating a new project on SourceForge from the last clean
version, so that I can change it as I like without running into angry
complaints from some other people.
