I do not agree, at least with respect to real time, that Windows Csound5 has
been progressing well. It is at best standing still. FLTK is now *broken*;
real-time audio has always been poor, and shows little sign of improvement.

To me, the main (and only real) promise of Csound5 has been an important
one: cross-platform compatibility. In the world of real-time, however, that
goal has proven elusive. The triumverate of FLTK, MIDI and rtaudio have been
thorns in the flesh for all three platforms. Only Linux has got it anywhere
near right.

My fervent hope is that Victor and Michael, using some valued ideas and
input from Istvan, can dynamically collaborate to take Windows CS5 canonical
past this giant roadblock.

Then, as Victor notes, perhaps a comparable dynamic duo or "force" can also
drive Mac Csound5 beyond similar obstacles.

Csound5 realtime audio is no worse than 4.23 (probably better with ASIO),
at least in the versions I have run here. MIDI is good with portmidi or without
(currently with).

The issue of FLTK being broken is one that has bothered me, because
everything seemed to be fine until sometime in early-mid january,
when it got broken. Unfortunately, I have been very pressed with work
and teaching and I have not really had time to investigate.

The csound5 version I use is from before FLTK broke down.
