It has to do with opening a serial port so one can access data from a
serial device such as an arduino. I haven't seen the code, is it mac
only? It would be great if it worked on the other platforms too.

Hi,

I think it's primarily thought for Arduino but it will likely receive
any information coming in on a serial port (which could include serial
bluetooth and serial USB ports).
