| I have been testing csound5 on OSX and I have a few comments to report.
1.Good news: full-duplex works and seems stable enough (with the odd dropout
still to be resolved). FLTK also seems to be fine, although exiting csound is
not always clean. I tested some controllers and they seem to be working
fine.
2. Not so good news: performance is disappointing. Stuff that runs in realtime
with macsound, does not do so with csound5 (csound is clearly struggling
to keep up with computation). I'll have to examine the compiler
settings etc,
because I know that in Linux the performance is quite good, so it's strange
that it's not fast in OSX. This can be of course the portaudio output
code,
but I can't see that it would affect performance so dramatically, as
the same code
didn't affect it on Windows
(Of course I could do some proper benchmarking, but I really can't be
asked...)
At least there's sound and graphics, which is an improvement. I'll see if I
can test
it on newer, faster, machines in the lab. I'm also planning a 'native'
CoreAudio
plugin, but I have to examine Istvan's RT plugin interface first, and then
there's marking...
