My *sincerest* apologies. I think the PDF generation is my fault, and
has to do with the pdf alias target I put in when I first started to
work on the alias targets. It has to do with the fact that the SCons
file default to building any target in the current directory, versus a
specified default target (that'll take a little while to clean up). For
the meanwhile, I've commented out the line that has that alias. I
believe that will remove the call to generate the PDF file.
[Sidenote: the reason the install targets, while defined, do not install
by default is that they are not targets in the current directory]
