Subject[CSOUND-DEV:5239] Csound Manual - gdp-both.dsl
Hi All,

I was making edits to the Csound Manual in CVS to update it's status a
community project and also to bring it up to date as now no longer being
the "Alternative" manual but "Canonical". My edits worked out fine, but
the copy of gdp-both.dsl that I attained must not be the same as the one
used by Kevin as the generated output differs somewhat (list of tables
being generated on index page, etc.). Does anyone have a copy of
gdp-both.dsl that generates the manual as Kevin's did?

Thanks,
steven

What happened to Kevin anyways? I noticed a couple of months ago that he
was no longer listed as a developer on Sourceforge. Did I miss an email
somehow saying that he was resigning?

One thing I would love to see in the documentation would be some kind of
databased online version for easier searching. That would be really
really handy.

Ie, show me all filter opcodes, show me all envelope opcodes, all new
opcodes as of v5, etc.

Last I emailed with Kevin, he had finished working on the ACRM and had
placed all of his docbook source files and makefiles into CVS so that
the
community can continue on with the manual. He is no longer is
maintaining or working on the manual as the stress and time involved was
less enjoyable than it had been, and has moved on to other things. I
thanked him for all of his hard work and wished him well, as I believe
everyone here would too.

I think he's left the manual in CVS in great shape for all of us to
continue on with his work, keeping things up to date, and continuing to
make Csound one of the best documented open-source music tools around.

Hi Iain,

A database-based version would be neat, similar to php's documentation.
I had thought about parsing the docbook to auto-create the db and
building pages around that. But having a hard copy is useful as well.
I'd like to find a way where both can exist and work from the same
source. I imagine a solution where the documentation is in db, then
periodically (cron job?) that data is written out to docbook xml or
docbook sgml and processed with jade to generate docs, or just directly
outputs HTML to disk itself.

Alas, it won't be me who does this task anytime soon as I've got my
hands full with a piece I'm working on and a lot of blue development
lately (and exploring legato instruments, especially now that John has
updated a lot of the opcodes! =) ). So, all I'll be able to contribute
will be changes to the existing docbook system. Luckily for all of us
it's in great shape and produces good docs!

^_^
