Subject[Cs-dev] Csound front page at SF and FAQ
Now with the new release, it is time to
update the csound front page at SF, who
does this normally?

The FAQ is good. Just one update in relation
to Python on OSX:

"On OSX, Csound uses Python2.3 (OSX 10.3 and 10.4)
by default, because this is what is supplied by
Apple.
However, from version 5.07, experimentally, the
OSX-10.4 Intel installer is also supplying the
Python 2.4 csnd module, which gets installed in
the MacPython 2.4 framework. Python opcodes, however,
are linked to Apple's supplied 2.3 framework on
all versions."

Someone ought to fill in the bit on Linux as well.
I guess it's 2.5, but I am not too sure what the
binary installers are doing.

Victor

I have usually been updating the page with each release. I will hopefully
get to it this weekend.

Thanks for this addition.

In general, I need much more information from the other binary package
builders about the contents and system requirements of each package so that
this information can be added to the FAQ.

Thanks.

SubjectRe: [Cs-dev] Csound front page at SF and FAQ
OK - I finally got the front page updated with links to the 5.07 files. I
also added Victor's note about Python on OS X and added my "best guess" for
Linux information to the FAQ. I am sure that this information could be
improved by someone who actually knows anything about the Linux packages ...

Descriptions of the various packages on the front page are also probably
out-of-date. Should "CsoundVST" be changed to "CsoundAC" in these and
mentionings of the Loris opcodes be removed?

Also, do we still need to distribute Loris sources for 5.07? Assuming that
the Loris opcodes were removed from all of the 5.07 packages, we could
probably remove those sources. I suppose that we ought to add libsndfile,
libosc, and any other LGPL libraries being compiled or included in the
Csound binary packages to the archive of miscellaneous sources. The problem
with just putting together one source code package though for all of these
dependencies is that each of us may be using a different version of these
libraries when compiling. (That is why, for instance, I include my
libsndfile source tree with the OS 9 source package).
