Istvan Varga has copied the list on his
response to a private email from me to him. Since he has made his half of this
discussion public, here is the previously private email to which he is
responding.
I will provide a detailed response in my
next email.
Regards,
Mike

Subject: More unasked for changes Istvan, you have now apparently decided that my
contributions to Csound 5 belong only in the CsoundVST build. At least, again
without discussion, you have moved them there.
This is not the case. As I said before on the csound-devel
list, my goal is to provide wrappers for a variety of languages that composers
use in the main Csound shared library or, at least, in the default build of
Csound 5. I was not necessarily intending that CsoundVST be a part of the
default build -- I think CsoundVST is cool but I don't much use it myself, and
it takes more of my time than I like. All I really want is the Python interface.
However, I do firmly feel that the wrappers should be part of
Csound.
Please restore my code to where I put it in the first place.
If you're not willing to do that, I will ask to have you removed from access to
Csound CVS.
It is possible, though of course I can't be sure, that you
would not have access to Csound CVS if it were not for me. Just before you
became a Csound developer, John ffitch emailed me to ask if I thought he should
make you one, and I said "Certainly, you should have made him one long
ago." You can ask him about this if you like.
Once again, I truly, truly value your contributions to Csound
5. You have made the program immeasurably better, and my own work as a musician
has benefitted from your work. In addition, I really appreciate your helpful
responses to inquiries on the Csound lists.
However, there is no reason for me to tolerate you, or anyone
else, no matter how talented or competent, unilaterally and without discussion
deciding where my work does or does not belong in a cooperative project. Or
even, for that matter, whether Csound is a purely "C" project or can have C++
code in it (which it already does). Or any other large, unilateral
decisions.
If anyone should have the final say on these matters, it
should be the CVS administrator, John ffitch, not you.
Once again, I am not dictating to you, or to anyone else,
about what does not belong in Csound 5. I am only adding my own contribution,
which does not interfere with anyone else's contributions. If you can't
abide that, you really should go somewhere else.
What I don't understand is, why don't you at least discuss
things with me? You can do that publicly on the list, and you can do it
privately if you prefer.
But if you don't SOON put my code back where it belongs, as in
by tomorrow or the next day, I WILL publicly ask to have you removed from Csound
CVS.
Once you have restored the code, then if you still disagree
with me about where it belongs, we can discuss it on the list.
This email is going only to you -- not to John ffitch or
anyone else.
Sincerely,
Mike Gogins
