OK, I see your point with MYFLT and carry. In that case, the new function
could either take a string event, or we can forget carry. Either option is
OK with me. I think magic numbers are a rather bad idea.

How is it expected to have carry with MYFLT arguments ?
Should a special "magic" p-field value be interpreted as '.',
or new arguments need to be added ?

OK, I will commit these soon in case you have not done so already.
Both changes are trivial (affect 1-1 lines), fortunately.

I would vote for axing carry. It's really not very "intelligent" anyway. 
Seems to me that if you are using the api, you'll be able to compensate 
for axing carry dead easily from whatever your calling host is.
