Just FYI, I've filed bug 43 to track work to fix array accessors for
a-vars not working.

I did some work on this but got stuck and wanted to write down the
current analysis. I think I'll be able to continue working on this

Just to follow up, I've implemented a workable fix.  It's not ideal
(had to just hardcode in one place...).  I think the hardcode was for
array_set, and in going through that area code I think the mechanism
for resolving LHS expressions should ultimately be reimplemented to
take into account the main opcode from that line's out-arg types.
That's a bit much for now, so I capped off the work as it does allow
array syntax to get/set k-val's from/to an a-sig. (Committed to
develop branch)
