[Cs-dev] Post-Github Migration

Date2014-03-24 14:00
FromSteven Yi
Subject[Cs-dev] Post-Github Migration
Hi All,

With the repositories, issues, and wiki migrated, I think the
following should happen for the Sourceforge page:

1. Remove the Git repositories
2. Remove the tickets
3. Clear out the wiki, add information to explain code, issues, and
wiki are now on Github, but file releases and mailing lists are still
maintained at SF
4. Modify project description with similar message

I'd like to make sure that the migration is to everyone's satisfaction
before proceeding with the above. I'd like to target Wednesday to do
the above, to give some time for any feedback.

Also, I believe there may have been changes to the CS5 git repo after
we started CS6. We could archive that in a simple way by doing a git
clone and zipping that up, then placing it in the file release system.
It would have the complete history. I don't know if there are
changes to manual and manual-fr (the cs5 manuals) that would need
similar archiving. If this is desirable, please respond with a "yes,
do it." :)

Thanks!
steven

Is there any way we can now, or in the near future point
csound.sourceforge.com to csound.github.io?

Rory: I've modified the csound.sf.net page to redirect to csound.github.io.

Victor: Yes, we should now be using github repos. Modifying the
.git/config works fine (it did for me at least yesterday). I did both
manual editing of .git/config as well as the 'git remote set-url
origin git@github.com:csound/csound.git' yesterday and both worked out
well.

Glad that worked out! Seems that things are working out well so far.

I did discover one issue: the migration of issues did not migrate
attachments. I think it's too late now, but just something to be aware
of.

If there's any other issues that arise, please let me know.

The only issue I see is that we need to get the other developers into the new repo and close the sf one before they start to diverge.

Yes, please. I had thought to wait a couple days to close down items
on Sourceforge, but maybe it's better to close them now so we don't
diverge as Victor said.

Sounds great. I've added this note to the sourceforge project page:

NOTE: Csound's SourceCode, Issue Tracker, and Wiki have moved to
http://www.github.com/csound/csound. File Releases and Mailing Lists
remain here on Sourceforge at this time.

Thanks!
