| Neither Sfront nor Csound currently supports changing the orchestra while it is playing. This may happen in the future with Csound but, as far as I know, is not planned for the SAOL specification.
Csound can record audio today, in several different ways.
Why would you run Csound in a separate process? You can use Csound as a library in your own process via the Csound API.
If you really need to change the orchestra while it is running, the only system I know that can do that today is ChucK by Ge Wang and Perry Cook.
On the other hand, you can stop Csound, recompile the orchestra, and start performing again in a second or so today.
Regards,
Mike
