switching to a different program closes qutesound.
can't get any plainer.
really annoying and hard to get any work done.

I am not sure now, but I think the program closing may have been caused by
an e command in the sequencer in some examples.

I had just downloaded it last month

This is not causing problems with current svn version. Can you let me know
what version of QuteCsound, of Csound, and what platform you are using?
