Yes, the process seems to be a little chaotic. I would suggest for the next 
release to explicitly tag as beta (eg, 5_09_beta), create the source package, 
and then everyone build from the source package.
Then only bugfixes should be commited, and after a while, tag the final 
release, create the source package and build all packages from them.

It sure confused me why there were several packages labeled as 5.08 when 
neither of them was.
