Perhaps it is the port, in the case 2401. It is possible sourceforge is
not using that port at present.

It has always and continues to work for me with the following
commandline:

localhost:~$ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sf.net:/cvsroot/csound co
-P csound5
