I don't agree that the beta was a waste of time; I think the process has been flawed due to releasing changes after a tag and everyone not using the same tag to build. What should not have happened IMO is introducing a new build system for Windows when the beta process was starting. I think that really threw things off but I guess also it couldn't be helped as things became broken for Michael who was doing the build, so it was just unfortunate. On the other hand, I think a number of bugs did get found during the beta phase that would have escalated into a mess if we hadn't marked it beta and asked for testing help. I still think the beta round was worth it.
