Hi Victor, I could wait, but that also means that no one should check anything else in as well so that the builds are all the same, or that it should be retagged as Anthony suggested, which would let us continue to check in things for the next four days. I don't think I have anything else I particularly have in mind to work on at the moment so this isn't hold me up personally and can wait. (Though a retag might be worth it anyways). Regarding Fedora, I haven't ever skipped versions when upgrading, but I'll say that when I upgraded, what normally happens is that some packages don't get updated as they're from 3rd party repositories, but they mostly still just run even in the new system. All of the Planet CCRMA packages I have are still fc5 and still work (the bigger programs got migrated to Fedora Extras so new versions of those were upgraded). I also in the past have used 3rd party repostories like ATrpms, Dries, Dag, and others, which seem to be a set different than Fedora Extras, Livna, and I think Nrpms. Since Fedora Extras has really expanded it's scope since fc5, I'm now trying to remove all 3rd party packages that aren't compatible with the Extras repository (the other repositories tended to have conflicting versions of certain software) as it makes upgrading easier. This upgrade was the most painless yet, just had to go online after the installer upgrade and used yum to upgrade the other packages on my computer from online repositories. Each upgrade I've done since fc3 has just gotten easier. There's always a few things that might need a little tweaking or fixing up after an upgrade, but I'm pretty satisfied. Things all around just feel nicer and I'd highly recommend FC6 if you have the time to upgrade. I tried googling for information on going from 4->6 but didn't find much. I've done 4->5, then 5->6, and managed to do it without losing anything, so can at least say that that process works. As always though, a backup of /home and /etc and anything particular installed is prudent. Just wanted to share that in case it's of any use! steven On 11/10/06, Victor Lazzarini wrote: > Perhaps wait for Michael to get his build ready, it > might avoid confusion. > > I wonder if it's possible to upgrade from FC4 directly > to FC6 easily as well. > > Victor > > > > > Hi All, > > > > I've just made a modification to the virtual keyboard > > (added 10 sliders for midi controller data) and was > > wondering if it's safe to check this in or if I should > > wait as it seems that the version.h changes happened after > > the tagging so if Michael goes to build on Tuesday he > > can't just update from tag, and this change isn't > > necessarily meant for 5.04 (maybe a 5.04.1, but not meant > > for this current release).
