Hi All, I was doing a test of WinXP vs. Linux and I found that there was a SIGNIFICANT difference in render times, with WinXP running order of magnitudes faster (approximately 5 times faster). This seemed way out of expected performance so I went to check on Linux and found that yes, it was much slower when writing to disk. I checked top and found that there was a process "gam_server" running and competing for CPU cycles. Looking around it seems that gam_server is a part of gamin, the gname file notifcation program, and that it would take about 20% with csound taking up the other percentage. My guess is that for every write to disk from csound, gamin is doing a notify and slowing down the render (I hope that is the case). Anyone have experiences like this?
