SuSE does use RPM packages, and it is in fact the distribution
I have and build the Linux binaries on.

It might be worth notifying the maintainers of these distribution
specific packages about the new version, but the distributions
would eventually switch anyway, even if not very fast. We could
also offer some help in solving whatever problems currently prevent
the inclusion of the new version.
