And there shouldn't even be a performance hit in 64bit archs with 64bit OS, which is the (I hope near) future. OSX and Linux are already 64bit capable and usable. There is a Windows 64bit, but I haven't heard of much success with it (mainly missing hardware support). I did a few tests a while ago and found that, when enabling optimizations, csound on linux 64bit was about 30% faster in the doubles version (if I remember my details correctly, I did around 10 or 15 runs of trapped.csd for each configuration).
