Csound on SourceForge

Csound is a sound and music synthesis system, providing facilities for composition and performance over a wide range of platforms. It is not restricted to any style of music, having been used for many years in the creation of classical, pop, techno, ambient, experimental, and (of course) computer music, as well as music for film and television.

Csound 5 is the newest major version and its software architecture has been redesigned to be considerably more flexible and modern. Csound 5 supports the most popular operating systems in use today, including Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows. At the present time, a version for MacOS 7-9 is still being maintained. Csound 5 will also probably compile and run on other Unix-based OSes as well.

Csound is now free software released under the GNU Lesser General Public License. It is developed by a community of volunteers and new contributors are welcome. Csound was originally developed by Barry L. Vercoe at the Music and Cognition Group of the M.I.T. Media Laboratory, with partial support from the System Development Foundation and from the National Science Foundation Grant #IRI-8704665.

• Csound4 - A traditional distribution of Csound 4. Both source and binary archives are available for the last of the Csound 4 line: version 4.23f13. This group also includes files for the last CsoundGBS package: csound-4.23f13gbs.1. CsoundGBS is a distribution of Csound 4 that uses GNU configure/automake to build and install. The flCsound GUI is available in the csound4gbs file release.
• CsoundMac - Contains OLD Macintosh distributions of Csound 4.23 and related materials. For the latest MacOS and MacOS X releases of Csound, please see the Csound 5 package. A binary distribution of CsoundGBS 4.23f12gbs.8 for Mac OS X is available here. (This version has very buggy real-time audio). Also, binary and source releases of Mills Csound 4.23f12 for MacOS (System 7 through OS 9) are available to download. The Mac Cscore SDK is primarily for OS 9 users with CodeWarrior.
