If it doesn't work I'd suggest to eliminate it and use an external library 
(I'm thinking gettext, which runs on all 3 supported platforms), and "forget" 
about translation issues. Gettext has the added benefit that most translators 
out there (at least in the linux world) already know how to work with it, and 
don't need to learn a new way to add translations.
In Linux, it also has the benefit that it automatically selects the correct 
language for the current locale setting (no need for extra csound-specific 
configuration).
