SubjectRe: [Csnd] [WIP] road to sobriety
thanks for the input,
i have no formal training (as it may show :) at music, all i learned came from: https://viva.pressbooks.pub/openmusictheory/ and actually it's more a quick read (and i didn't finished it) as i notice i have very little patience for following rules, specially as i decide my octave divisions (EDO) at each new song based on a random table... so far i composed some counterpoints and never finished an entire song ¶ about the sonic simplicity, i think i fell in love with simple oscillators when i first figured out the workflow of Csound (back in the days i was reading the manual while i waited for deliveries at my bicycle-courier job)... for me, maybe because of Csound as a whole, simple stuff sounds extremely pleasurable! so far all the instruments here are: a simple pluck acting as a percussion, and the op-code oscili with distort and pan2.
i tried to read the The Csound book but in very short time it got overwhelmed... and please, i'm not criticizing the methodologies but just as some field i can't dive in as i typed before, i'm developing an entire 3D game from the scratch, without any background knowledge... so basically i took an entire year (keep in mind i doing this full time while i live at my parents house) to study the basics and check what i may create; 2 years (3 in total) into it and i'm more or less skin and bones, out of exhaustion... so maybe sonic complexity is totally out of bounds for me & specially because of my game aesthetics, which i'll send a screen-shot... the plot is about robots learning music-theory and building music instruments from 3D printers and PCBs (which will be my collection of exercises on random EDOs and simplification of concepts found at the book mentioned earlier and a brief explanation of simple op-codes with ADSR, distort etc.), so i think the sonic aesthetic matches a lot the art direction and as i said, i'm totally biased, it's a work of love, 99.9% as i'll release it free of price without Ads etc. ¶ i'm uploading the state of the song right now... which i'll work into for a day or 2 till i feel no headache of coffee abstention, to get back into composing/creating for the game main plot (soon i'll start exercises of fugue but to tell you the truth, i'll just make it a chat about abstracting noise into language concepts; "subject", "answer", "new topic" from the method than try to fit different EDOs into the well established rules and make it sound good to me)
