Subject[Csnd] ANNOUNCEMENT: International Csound Users Group Meeting on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 14:00 EDT

In this meeting, I will present further progress towards “eternally playing” pieces that feature both music and visuals, and are available in ordinary Web browsers, either online, or using a local Web server. Some of these pieces will be interactive.

Please feel free to share music, ask questions, or present technical aspects of your work. You are welcome to join the meeting even if you are not one of the addresses of this email.

The International Csound Users Group Meeting is a monthly virtual meeting for all those interested in learning, using, or contributing to the development of the Csound system for computer music. Meetings are also open to the discussion of issues of computer music in general, both musical and technical.

The meeting is hosted and chaired by myself, Michael Gogins, on Zoom. The time is the first Wednesday of each month at 19:00 UTC (14:00 EDT). Meetings can accommodate up to 100 participants with reasonably good audio quality, and normally last from one to two hours.

Please email me at michael.gogins@gmail.com to suggest your own topics for presentation or discussion. Suitable topics include:

  • Questions on how to install or configure Csound.

  • Questions on how best to use Csound.

  • Presentation of new techniques for sound synthesis or algorithmic composition with Csound.

  • Presentation of new features in Csound.

  • Presentation of new tools to be used with Csound or to augment Csound.

  • Presentation of music made with Csound or other electroacoustic music (but see below).

We do welcome the presentation and discussion of pieces made with Csound, or indeed of any piece of electroacoustic music created by a participant, but all music (excepting live demonstrations) should be hosted on some external platform such as YouTube or SoundCloud, as we will play only the first few minutes of a piece during the meeting in order not to disrupt the flow of discussion. For this reason, we prefer to announce pieces for upcoming meetings in advance.

Michael Gogins is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Hello, I'm a noobie to programming anything but have started with Csound about 2 months ago although I dabbled with using included examples to render and use in other software. I am however a professional musician and teacher so have experience working with samplers/synthesizers.

I would very much appreciate the opportunity to attend. I would also like to present a short piece if possible, somewhat in keeping with the subject matter, and to present the many different elements I used to get a more holistic sound. Below is an example of the score:
</CsInstruments>
<CsScore>
;===============Parameters======================================================;
; all instr unless otherwise specified :
; p4=amp (changes master out level for global delay and reverb)
; p5=delay send, p6=reverb send

; 8-tap stereo delay p5=base delay time in ms

; reverb p5=length, normalized so set value between 0-1

; firepit - p5=crackle amp, p6=crackle density
; p7=crackle dynamics, p8=hiss amp, p9=randomize hiss amp
; p10=flames amp, p11=flames freq, p12=delay send
; p13=reverb send, p14=white noise, p15=fractal noise(brown)

; crickets p5=fundamental freq
;===============================================================================;

i"Delay"       0      95     1.0 .15
i"Reverb"      0      95     1.0 .92

i"Wind"        0      91     0.6  0  .5

i"Firepit"     0      91     1.0  .9  10    .8   .5  .3   3  110   .05   .03   1    .4

i"Crickets"    0      91     0.2  0  .7   12.03
i"Crickets"    0.2    91     0.1  0  .7   11.10
i"ChimesCtrl"  8      83.3   0.6  0  .15
i"TrigChimes"  8      83.3

i"FeedFrog"   12      79     0.1  0  .06   .18

i"TrigOwl"    16      75     0.7 .24 .07
i"TrigOwlPair"16      75     0.7 .11 .07
e
</CsScore>
</CsoundSynthesizer>

It combines two individual ambient generative prices that can essentially play forever, however no video yet. They are still works in progress. All sounds are completely generated within Csound for Android and are custom instr with the exception of Jeanette C.'s wonderful birds (not samples, they are also synthesized and were recently posted on the Csound forum). The owls are however mine so don't hold that against her. Two are great horned owls based on a field recording here :

I kept the demo short, 3 minutes.

Thank you and best regards,
